Emma Bird on course for 2012

Bramcote swimmer, Emma Bird, won her first open medals at the Scottish National Championships in Glasgow on 28/29 June. Emma took gold in the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2.31.55 and silver in the 100m breaststroke in 1.11.25. She achieved personal best times in both events.

Both the 200m and 100m times are the fastest junior times for breaststroke in Britain at the moment. Emma’s 200m time is just off the British junior record.

Emma is currently ranked 5 in the open age group for 200m breaststroke and 7 for 100m. She has been targeted along with 20 other girls aged between 13 and 17 for the 2012 Olympics. The target group will achieve support from British Swimming over the next 5 years.

Aged 16, Emma is currently one of the top swimmers in the country. She’s from Wollaton and trains with Bramcote Swimming Club and the county squad, Nova Centurions.
